![]() Habitat Found in warm, subtropical waters of the Western Atlantic Ocean and are benthic (bottom dwelling) in coral reefs. They are yellow with sapphire blue highlights throughout their bodies with an iridescent surface with oval shaped bodies. The Small Juvenile will contain the Juvenile colorations or may be color shifting to a young adult, while the Medium will be a sub-adult, and the Large will be in Adult coloration. The Queen Angelfish gets its name from it’s beautiful blue crown on its forehead. The Queen Angelfish should be fed at least three times daily. Queen angelfish are omnivores, eating mostly sponges and algae. Juvenile queen angelfish are recognized by their yellow color, which turns blue as they age. They can grow reaching up to 18 inches in length and 3.5 pounds. The diet should include Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis or frozen shrimp, and other meaty items. Queen angelfish acquired their names from their crowns a round black/blue spot on the top of their heads. ![]() A somewhat difficult angelfish to keep, Queen Angelfish often suffer from incorrect water parameters and diet. It can be aggressive, so it must be introduced to the community tank last. ![]() Not a good reef dweller, the Queen Angelfish is prone to nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles. This symbiotic relationship allows the young queen angelfish to have a nice snack, while the older and larger fish get clear of parasites. With the potential of reaching an impressive 18 inches, the Queen Angelfish needs a large tank – at a minimum of 250 gallons, with lots of hiding places and live rock for grazing. Queen angelfish are pretty unique in the way that they help the other fish around them (even dangerous ones) get clean from parasites that could inhibit their quality of life. The dorsal and pelvic fins are elongated. It has a dark spot on the forehead surrounded by bright blue. Vibrant yellow and electric sapphire-blue highlights give the Queen Angelfish an almost iridescent appearance. The Queen Angelfish is one of the most striking of all angelfish.
